Individual counseling

My approach is to treat all clients with dignity and respect, engaging them in very active participation, including homework and skills practice. I tend to be kind and direct, using humor with compassion. I use skills/methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness and Solution Focused approaches, as well as other helpful approaches, depending on clients’ needs.

Couples/Family therapy

Often, it is most helpful to address relationship problems as a couple or family system. I use many research-based resources from the Gottman Institute for couples therapy and recommend their online resources at www.gottman.com for couples issues, as well as healthy parenting help. If you engage in couples therapy with me, part of the process is for each mate to complete a “Relationship Checkup” (a Gottman resource) for assessment purposes. There is an additional fee of $39 for this online assessment, which is not paid for by insurance, but is very valuable in identifying and targeting issues.

Online therapy

Since the pandemic several years ago, I have been seeing more clients online/virtually. Many insurance companies/plans have been reimbursing for tele-health as a result of COVID-19. However, it is important to check with YOUR plan provider about whether this is a current benefit, if you would like to participate in online therapy. Most of the methods used in individual and couples/family therapy can be used virtually, although homework tends to be sent out via email. In keeping with the law, I use a HIPAA-compliant tele-health platform and email service in order to protect your privacy.
